The Life of a Water Drop
Walker, 4th grade, High Lakes Elementary
It was a cold spring night, and to make the night worse, it was raining. We are many water molecules formed into one raindrop falling from the largest cloud, and landed with a “plop” in the gutter. I then fell through a gutter. I landed on the ground and rolled into a storm drain on the road and started to make my journey to the ocean. I traveled under the streets of Bend, Oregon to the Deschutes River which would lead me to the ocean.
I traveled in the Deschutes for a long time until I traveled through my second town. It was called Redmond. It was small. A little way beyond Redmond I met up with the Crooked River. After I met up with the Crooked I passed through an Indian reservation called Warm Springs. I also passed through Lake Billy Chinook. A little way passed Lake Billy Chinook I was at my first dam. I made it passed all right though. Some of my fellow water molecules didn’t because the dam used them to make electricity.
A long way passed the dam was the town of Maupin. After Maupin I fell down my first waterfall. It was called Sherars Falls. Some ways after that I reached the Columbia. It was huge!
After I got into the Columbia I went down Seufert Falls. After Seufert Falls I went through The Dalles, a very nice city. Then I went through Hood River. The last city I went through was called Portland. The biggest city in Oregon I heard. After Portland I entered an estuary that took me into the ocean. I was so excited to be there at last.
I stayed there for a long time until I evaporated up into a cloud to travel the whole cycle over again.
